jackass icons for os x

Filed under: Apple, Media, Tech — rshangle @ 3:49 am

Since this is a “blog”, specifically mine, it’s slowly dawning on me that I should post content here periodically. Like on the order of a couple of times a week, as opposed to once or twice a year (the current trend).

With that said, if you loved the MTV show Jackass (I did!), and like icons (and who doesn’t?), check action.

They’re not likely to vomit on you or smell, unlike the genuine article.

These icons are slowly taking over my desktop, phasing out the Homestarrunner icons that previously graced my cinema display. Change is good. Looking foward to a good ween episode tomorrow.

The King of Town is scared.

Fairly accurate, and entertaining.

Elements 3 and 9 resonated as especially true. Jobs will rarely miss an opportunity to pound his chest over iPod sales. not that (at the moment) he shouldn’t, especially since apple has the nano as the heir apparant to the wholly marginal shuffle (which, btw, I’ve purchased four of, for various reasons). I wonder how he’ll turn the during the ipod’s long slide towards the middle. if there ever is one. with the video-enabled system in the public’s hands, apple appears to remain ahead of the curve with regards to sleek enablement, seamless online purchasing of content, and sexy.

and what’s wrong with being sexy?

Front Row Hacked on Mac Mini…

Filed under: Apple, Data Control, Media, Music — rshangle @ 12:52 pm

…and PowerMac G5… and another mini… and… on OS X on Intel anyone…?

Front Row is an iApp released specifically for the new (Oct 2005) iMac G5s. It provides an IR remote control and streamlined interface to access music, downloaded/ripped video, DVDs, photoes. It’s basically Apple’s first whack (to the public) at an integrated home media center… sort of.

Actually it’s a glorified front-end to iTunes/Photo/uh/DVD Player/some other action.

Too bad it’s currently only available on the iMac G5, and Apple (to my knowledge) has yet to announce an intent to bring it to Mac systems at large.

hey, i’m not a real blogger, so far be it from me to actually research anything regarding my assertions.

Surprised it took almost two whole weeks to hack (in the example below, on a Mini), but I’m glad it didn’t take longer.

Will be confirmed / denied on my PowerMac G5 within the next few hours.

10.12.2005 Apple Predictions / Wonderings / Dreams

Filed under: Apple, Media — rshangle @ 5:54 pm

… and the Borg Cube.

Despite being sued by Apple, thinksecret.com is all over the predictive front, per usual.

New iPods and Mac configs tomorrow. No video iPod.

Boring.

There’s got to be… just one more thing…

I had a dream lsat night that tomorrow Apple will be going on a peripheral-oriented rampage:

- a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse

- a crazy full-sized keyboard (i.e. piano, not QWERTY), with touch-sensitive/weighted keys, MIDI/USB, and additionally the Garageband breakout box capabilites that were being mused over as Asteroid.

- the Apple DvR (of course)

- a new iSight (smaller, higher res)

- a gun joystick for pistol-based games (WTF?; think NES Duck Hunt)

- a general purpose gaming joystick based on a hybrid of the PS2 dual shock and the Xbox S-type

(yeah, I know… it was a big announcement in my dream… which took place in a new flagship Apple store decorated in a Borg Cube motif… or was perhaps actually built on the Borg Cube)

- redesigned Bluetooth keyboard (since I love mine (all three of them - the two I had originally, and the one I had to buy when I dumped a beer on one of the first two), I don’t see how it could improve)

- new, ultra-streamlined high-res inkjet printer (and yes, I had a StyleWriter I, and know Apple has been in, through, and is well out of that biz, for the good of all, and that printers are not sexy… it was a dream, ok?)

- wireless, ultra-thin/light wall-hangable monitor / integrated media player (would be cool)

- some other stuff

On top of that, the dream featured Apple’s new (not-)manufacturing motif: brushed aluminum and blue neon.

So, yeah. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.
